Jaroslaw K. Radomski – a journalist, writer, and photographer, born 1953 in Warsaw, Poland, the year Stalin died. Raised under the communist regime, he holds a B.S. and M.S. in Polish philology and a Ph.D. (ABD) specializing in the theory of persuasion. The materials for his doctoral dissertation, however, were seized under the Polish People’s Republic’s (PRL) censorship, so he spent years in communist courts fighting to get them back. He won the case… and emigrated to the U.S.
There, he was an author of hundreds of press articles. His book Dziennik podróży do Amazonii (The Diary of the Journey to the Amazon Region), describing his exploration of the Amazon, was published in installments by The Am-Pol Eagle. His movie-novella All This Shit, showing a bitter view of Polish immigrants in New York City, during Martial Law in Poland, is still waiting for a better political climate to be published. His new novel The Cinderella’s Sneakers, presenting in satirical form the absurdity of life in post-Martial Law PRL, is also waiting for a better time to be published, proving that good prose dealing with political issues has a very uphill journey to reach the public.
In the meantime, to show a better side of Poland, he wrote this lexicon presenting the lives and works of amazing Polish artists and writers (throughout the history of Poland): The Magnificent 100. He speaks four languages. He is an enthusiast of sailing, a professional photographer, an explorer of a rain forest… and a devoted father of two beautiful daughters: Victoria and Julia.
The publication of this book was supported by funds from The Permanent Chair of Polish Culture at Canisius College, Buffalo, NY.
The Permanent Chair of Polish Culture at Canisius College, in its initial brochure announcing Polish Chair Day, reminded all that "the contributions of Poland and her people to the cultural development of Western Civilization are many and magnificent." With that in mind, the Polish Chair participated in seeing this publication documenting the towering figures of Polish art and literature come to fruition.
